Police Radar/Laser bands

If you know of a speed trap in town post it

Police Radar/Laser bands

Postby Johny2x4 on Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:29 am

I've been keeping an updated list of what county/area police use what technology. Here is what I have:

State Trooper: Ka Band, K Band, LASER, Aircraft
Spotted K Band on highway 6 at max warning level(5/5). I got lasered on Dodge street, they like to hide under the overpasses for streets like 144th and 132nd. Keep an eye on the sky, they can get your speed from a plane undetectable. All other times, I've only read Ka Band.

OPD: Ka Band, and I've heard reports of laser. I've never seen laser from OPD, but just keep a look out for it.

Gretna: Ka Band only

Wahoo: Ka Band only

Yutan: Ka Band only

Papillion: Ka Band

I've seen laser on at least 3 occasions from OPD. Didn't need the detector for 2 of the times though, was during separate huge traps where you could see them from a mile away, and the other time was coming by Millard South and the motorcycle cop had his bike sitting behind some trees and he was hiding behind a fence (it's a typical spot for cops, so it's not real smart to speed through there).

So yes, OPD uses laser, but from what I've seen, only when stationary and when running a "trap".

Project{Euro}Tuner should do this! http://www.audi-forums.com/b8-forum/57129-bel-rx75-radar-detector-laser-jammer.html

Where did they laser you? City Popo or a trooper?

How often are the troopers really using K band? I don't know if anyone else has noticed but those traffic drones on I-80 and I-680 shoot K band radar.

The newest detectors from Bel and Escort have a feature to filter these interstate traffic monitors out but they are so filthin' expensive.

I've only seen one real state trooper shooting K band. Every other trooper has been Ka or Laser.
Confirmed, OPD Shoots laser from time to time.

Using cheapo detectors is pointless, however my Passport has saved my a$$ numerous times against one confirmed laser situation and numerous Ka's.

It's definitely cheaper than a speeding ticket and also the increase in insurance rates.

One really needs to use a GOOD detector AND their eyes. I highly recommend (and use) Passport and Beltronics setups.

If anyone needs help picking out or finding a good detector I'd be more than happy to help.

An acquaintance of mine just told me this in regards to radar:

"In Omaha you will not receive a K band alert from a police car, Omaha police department and the Nebraska State Patrol do not use K band detection. However if you are traveling in Bellevue, they use both K and KA band. 8 out of 10 police cars in Bellevue use KA but they have not completed upgrading all their units to KA band, thus it is somewhat common to see a K band police car in Bellevue.

To take it a step further, South Dakota state patrol uses K band on all of their state patrol cars. The state simply has not invested the money to upgrade, though some of the local cities have upgraded to KA band."

Anyone have Council Tucky info?

I've spotted and read all the way up to 5/5 for K band on a state trooper right outside of Gretna on Hwy 6. He had someone pulled over too.

That K band may be more important than we all originally though huh? If a trooper has it in Gretna, they probably run it randomly state wide.

I've seriously only seen it once on a state trooper near gretna. It had pretty good range. Just don't disable it on all the new radar detectors. If K starts reaching the second level of signal strength, that's when you should be watching your speed.

Side note: I picked myself up a Passport Escort 7500 for $60 yesterday. This detector is way better than my Cobra was. I got hit with laser by a state trooper just after midnight on i-80 east under the 144th st bridge. I wasn't speeding, my car only has 3rd and 4th gear right now, so i gotta ride easy on the interstate.

I also learned that if you hold the 'City/Hwy' button, it emmits a Ka band signal, and sets off nearby radar detectors at a full level. It was setting off my old Cobra in my girlfriends car. Kinda funny.

Cobra's suck, that's probably why you hardly ever got an K band signals. Good thing you got something else, but no matter what, you still have to pay attention a lot. I'm thinkin about selling mine just because most of the time, no matter what you have, it's just a mildly helpful tool.

I don't think cobra's suck really. Way better than the whistler i had. The one i had saved me several times, and in several occasions went off over a mile away from the officer. I drive a lot on that highway out west that goes from gretna to elkhorn, like 204th i think, and those cops camp out with Ka band on the median. There aren't any street lights out there so paying attention really doesn't help. the radar detector has saved me countless times. I won't ever get rid of mine, i don't always speed, but when i do, it just gives me some sort of peace of mind that I know I have a chance to avoid a ticket.

Also, my plates expired and i have a bench warrant, so I really have to watch for cops.
